Why Is My Blog Being Overlooked?
By Diane Scott of Online Internet Marketing Strategies
So you've been told to blog. Sounds easy enough, right? Wrong! Most bloggers are going to work themselves silly and still sit there asking themselves, "Why Is My Blog Being Overlooked?" First, many will tell you to choose a free hosting platform like blogger or wordpress itself. While these are cheap, free resources to use, you're starting off almost immediately in the wrong direction. When it comes to blogging or website building, having your own domain is critical to your success. Choosing the proper blogging platform also makes a huge difference. Wordpress is ideal for blogging - if it's hosted on your own domain! Not just from a user-end point of view (it's easy to use once installed), but because of all the plugins and possible widgets you can add to your blog. Consider plugins to be the guts of your website (blog). What you choose to use (or leave out) can make or break it. Your goal, while getting traffic and readerships built, is to also end up in the search engines (Google, Yahoo! and the like) and found through "natural searches." However, the plugins can only take you so far. You must have a commitment to your blogging whether it's the written word, a video blog, a review site, what have you. Post, post, post! While posting on a consistent basis, with information presented in your own words (you want to create your own style that people are attracted to), what you do with your posts when you're done is a whole other story (and generally where people fall on their face). There are blogging networks and systems galore online. But for the technically challenged, even more important is the help and support you will need. Most of us are not meant to go it alone online. Most of us want, need, must have the ability to get in touch with more knowledgeable individuals willing to help. So if you've been blogging for a while, and your Alexa rank is going no where, it's safe to say you're doing something wrong. The worse thing you can do is "hope things will get better." The best thing... seek out help, advice, and support!
